Saturday Morning 13th December

It’s forecast to be a sunny day on Saturday, fingers crossed, so it would be a pity not to do the ‘big hill’ aka Truleigh wouldn’t it, or would it? Anyway this is the slightly easier route, following the contours above Golding Barn. We can also follow the Downs Link, rather than the river bank, after Stretham Bridge, if we want to ensure we keep our feet dry until we get up on the Downs. No more than 14 miles in terms of distance, depending on route. Photo’s from the run can be found in the gallery here:

Saturday Morning 6th December

Looks like fine (but cold) weather tomorrow – so here’s the ever popular Poynings loop to play with……..next week, as an early heads up, at popular request we have a trip up Truleigh Hill planned – but that’s next week. Wrap up warm, it may be chilly, and come prepared for the high probability of Marks Tights seeing their first outing!

Full Grand Prix results for 2014

The Crowborough 10k completed the 2014 series of Grand Prix races, and congratulations must go (again) to Mick and Cynthia Dee, our most distant members from up in Forest Row, who once again competed in more races than any other Henfield Jogger, by some considerable, vast, margin!

Jenny Cobby completes a race report and results for every event, and you can find all of these on our own Sussex Grand Prix page.

So, just to explain a little more, the Sussex Grand Prix is the main road race competition for runners and running clubs in Sussex, and all races score points for members of Sussex Athletics affiliated running clubs that have become members of the Sussex Grand Prix, such as Henfield Joggers.

Chichester

In general terms runners score points based on their finishing position at selected races. Points are awarded according to the runner’s finishing position, 1st place earns 500 points, 2nd place 499, and so on. The scoring is separate for males and females. Individual’s point’s totals are obtained from a runner’s best 8 scoring races. These 8 races must include at least 2 races of 10 miles or more, (runners over 70 and under 18 will not have to run 2 long races).

Runner’s individual points allocation also form the team scores for each club; the top 10 men and 5 ladies are counted.

The complete list of races for 2015 and links to each race will be found on our Events page once the 2015 schedule has been released.

For more information, Jenny Cobby is the Henfield Joggers representative for the Grand Prix and can be contacted at: glenncobby@tiscali.co.uk. Jenny would love to see more Henfield Joggers representation at these events next year, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want more information as she knows each of these races inside out!

Charity begins close to home……updated

At this years AGM we announced that we had made a small profit from the 2014 Seven Stiles event, which under the WSFRL constitution should be donated to charity. We’re more than delighted to announce that we’re able to donate £100 each to three very local and well deserving organisations. Henfield Leisure Centre needs no introduction as our alma mater, Henfield Youth Club continue to do a great job with limited funds, and Know Dementia are doing a fantastic job with the growing societal pressures of this growing issue.

On Sunday 30th November Cathy and Paul handed over the cheque for Know Dementia at their Christmas meal in Henfield Hall, where we were made to feel phenomally welcome, especially by the best Father Christmas ever! Below you can see Cathy and Paul handing over the cheque to Alex, the chair of Know Dementia.

And then on Tuesday 2nd December Brian and Danielle popped along to the Youth Club to present the cheque to some clearly happy people!

Saturday Morning 29th November

Nobody seems keen on a particularly long run this Saturday and some of us are still recovering from man flu, so I suggest this version of the Lock Farm route, using the dotted line along the Downs Link [the alternative was devised before the resurfacing north of Betley Bridge]. It’s only about 10.5 miles and inevitably contains some road [to avoid the mud] and some mud [to avoid the road]!

Saturday Morning 22nd November

We are meeting at HLC this Saturday at 8am, as usual, then driving down to Findon to join up with a BOSH group (A group of runners that exist as a Facebook group and to whom a few of us also belong – search on Facebook for more details) who are running basically the same route round Cissbury and Chanctonbury as we did last week. The cross on the map below shows the location of the car park at Cissbury if anyone prefers to go straight there. The run starts at 8.30am and is between 9 and 11 miles, depending on whether a circuit of Cissbury is included.

Fun Run League 2014 Club Result

Not everyone realises that the ‘fun runs’ (yes, I know they’re not all exactly ‘fun’ in the way we might think!) actually form part of a League, the West Sussex Fun Run League, of 18 Clubs, including Henfield Joggers.

After several years of decline to the point of finishing rock bottom, I’m pleased to say that we’ve had something of a revival, finishing 16th (see full table below).

Ranking-1
Now for this thanks must go to everyone who has taken part in any of the Fun Runs during 2014, every single one of you earned points, and those accumulate. To illustrate the huge difference between last year and this year, take a look at the following table, which simply shows the year on year improvement. Henfield Joggers finished third, which just shows how much we have improved:

Improvers

Apart from thanking everyone who took part, sometimes on cold and wet, windy days, and many times wondering what on earth you’d agreed to when you said ‘yes’ one Wednesday evening in a weak moment (yes, I KNOW that feeling too you know!) I’d like to single out Liz and Gill who really promoted this and encouraged everyone to just ‘have a go’, and of course introduced the ‘cake rating’ that will be in use in 2015!!

I’d also like to mention Danielle for her enthusiasm, in fact so much enthusiasm that I’m handing over the mantle of ‘Fun Run coordinator’ to her for the 2015 season! So ‘Paulie Gradings’ give way to ‘Dani Ratings’! But I won’t be far away and hope to see you all at more of these events next year than ever before! Thank you all so much, and maybe see you at the Hangover 5 on New Years Day???
