An unique event, run largely off road on pretty, gently undulating hills around Bewl Water – nestling on the border of Sussex and Kent. This race is certainly challenging, but runners of all standards welcome, I have taken part once, and it really is a great run with a time limit of 3h 30m. Start and finish is in the lane opposite the Greyhound Pub, heading across farmland down to Bewl Water. The route is clockwise around Bewl Water for about 8 miles, and is mostly flat. It is largely wooded, with some field sections. The route leads away from Bewl water at about 9 miles, to avoid a Nature Reserve. There is a 3 mile section on country roads, this is the hilly part of the course, then returning to the reservoir for a further 2 miles, before the last mile up the path to Wadhurst.

The course circumnavigates the Ancient Town of Hastings, starting on the seafront and following the route of William the Conqueror towards Battle, round the back of the town, along the ridge and down towards the Famous old Town and fishing village, then back along the promenade for the last two or so miles to the finish.
Although tough for the first part of the course, there are some fast times and PB’s as the last two thirds are flat and downhill. Apart from a couple of hail showers, the day was very pleasant, thankfully not windy or too cold. As usual the support from the local people was as good as ever, and they really get behind the runners.

Chichester Priory 10k – 9th February 2014
On a dry day, but with a cold wind, the route took in 1 lap of the NE segment of the city, on a lovely course over a slightly undulating route on a mixture of rural and urban roads.
The start was in College Lane, going out to Westhampnett roundabout, then round Goodwood airfield, the last 2 Km on Lavant Road which is downhill, so a nice speedy finish. The final approach to the finish was through the main car park entrance, due to renovation work at Chichester Festival Theatre.
It was not the balmiest of days for the Chichester 10k today, but we can’t grumble. Mick Dee was the only other jogger there, he said he hadn’t run for a while, so would be happy just to get round. The back two miles into a wind from the West gusting to 40mph+ wasn’t as bad as I had feered it might be & rain held off.
I also said hello to Mark Greet running for Horsham Joggers & during the race chatted with Terry Bourne, running in other colours.

Crowborough 10K – 1st December 2013
Dave English 54.18
Starting at East Beeches Road, a 2 lap undulating course of Green lane, Crowborough Hill and Palesgate Lane. If there is deep water at Palesgate Lane ford, the race is diverted over the footbridge parallel to the ford.
Comment from Dave English: “It was a rather cold run, I think the ford was unusually popular for once, as there wasn’t too much water flowing and the muddy track to the bridge at the side looked pretty uninviting! I’m not too quick at the moment, but I was happy with my time in the circumstances.”
