Since the inaugural season in 1983, 18 clubs in the county belong to the league, from Lewes (in east Sussex!) to Chichester and from the coast up to Crawley (including us). The philosophy of the league is to encourage participation and to promote the enjoyment of running. The rules of the league are made democratically, by a committee consisting of one, or two representatives from each club. The main committee meeting of the year is in November with a mini meeting in May.
Each club holds their own fun run per year, with Henfield Joggers own event being the Seven Stiles, in July. The entry fees are fixed at £3 per adult league club member and £1 for juniors (under 18). Runners not members of a WSFRL club pay £5 and £1 respectively, and ALL runners not booking in advance pay £5 on the day, regardless of age.
The scoring system incorporates ‘performance’ points, 10 points for each of the first 10% of finishers, 9 points for the next 10% etc… However the most important thing to know is that EVERY runner scores 1 participation point for their club (to a maximum of 25), so just taking part will earn points. A trophy is awarded to the winning club at the AGM in November.
At each run spot prizes are given out randomly or to particularly cheerful runners! Purposefully no awards are made for actually winning, in order to emphasise the fun nature of the event.
The full list of 2018 events and associated information can be found in our Events section, and for more information, and of course bookings for all races, contact Andy James, the coordinator for Henfield Joggers, at: funruns@henfieldjoggers.co.uk.
If you book via Andy (ie: drop him an Email or respond to the posts on Facebook) he will take care of the entries – all you will have to do is pay HIM the £3 entry fee. By the way this is payable in the event of being unable to take part on the day. This is because he pays the entry fees upfront out of his own pocket!
Results will always be found on the West Sussex Fun Run League website, usually within 48 hours of the race being completed. You can keep tabs on how other Joggers have done in the 2018 Fun Runs on this page.
