Health and Safety Policy

Health and Safety Policy Overview.

Our health and safety policy aims are to:

  • Ensure health & safety is utmost in our minds when organising events and supporting our members
  • Prevent avoidable accidents whilst also ensuring our members are able to enjoy all organised activities
  • Manage health and safety risks at our organised events by ensuring suitable risk assessments have been carried out in advance
  • Provide clear instructions and information to ensure run leaders and event supervisors are competent to do so
  • Ensure that we have, in the event of an emergency, suitable procedures in place and guidance to all participants as to the course of action to take whether the emergency be medical or other significant incident.
  • Review and revise our policy on a regular basis

Our Responsibility for Health and Safety:

The overall and final responsibility for health and safety lies with the Committee and a dedicated Health and Safety Officer is appointed to oversee and lead these requirements on behalf of our members.

The responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practice is not just the responsibility of the committee, but also all members and we expect all members to conduct themselves is an appropriate manner, not jeopardising the health and safety of others during organised activities.

Specific responsibilities for Health & Safety will be undertaken by key roles at our organised events, mainly as follows:

  • Wednesday Social Runs – Nominated run organiser and any other committee members attending
  • Thursday Training – The organising Coach of the activity in attendance
  • Specific Events – The Race Director and any other nominated committee members or volunteers

Our Commitment to Health and Safety

We commit to maintain our policy to ensure the health and safety standards are reviewed and improved. To assist with this process the following will apply:

  • The race director appointed for each major event (Seven Styles, Steynfield, Junior Events etc) will ensure that risk assessments have been carried out and public liability insurance is in place
  • The Welfare Officer will ensure that First Aid training is provided (as required) event organisers and volunteers
  • The Health & Safety Officer will ensure all accidents or near-misses are reported and recorded.
  • Should any indoor events take place we will ensure escape routes are well signed and kept clear at all times, making reasonable adjustments to ensure inclusivity.
  • Risk assessments will be carried out before all major events we organise
  • Training on risk assessments to be provided on an as a when required basis should the Health & Safety officer be unable to do so.
