September Handicap Results

Results have been slightly delayed as Chris and then Paul have been away but finally, drum roll, here they are! After the usual Summer absence it seems like a long time, but the top three are very very tight now. It’s Kerry, from Jane, then Liz. But three months to go and anything can happen. Good luck everyone!!!

Bacchus Half Marathon 2016

Where do I start with a review of this utterly amazing ‘event’ (definitely not race!)? Probably with Jenny’s review of her experience last year, which intrigued many of us to enter this year. From one person last year to a whole minibus and carload of runners and supporters, the Joggers were out in force! Jenny was not alone for this at all!

Our Facebook page has overloaded with photographs and positive comments so this won’t be new to most people, but this truly is an amazing event. Definitely NOT PB potential (though some do take img_3724it seriously, Hugh even won his age category this year) because it is both a) hilly and b) gloriously debauched by mixing drink with fancy dress into a running event! 95% of entrants do take the fancy dress seriously, some VERY seriously, which means that from arrival everyone is chatting and engaging with each other, lots of banter flying around between costume groups. This sets the tone for the event, it’s about sheer enjoyment and fun more than grinding out a run which at times is more demanding than you might imagine based on these words.

So, with the Joggers group encompassing pirate, lurid 80s dress, rara skirts, royalty, Buzz Lightyear and even a fake pregnant Dani (don’t ask!) most of us set out from the start just to have fun, and run together as much as possible, running between drinks stations  at our own desired pace but regrouping at each station. And there were a lot!

Seven drinks stations in total, starting with white wine (different varieties at each of the first few stations), then rose wine, sparkling wine at the best station of all (see the video!) and a final stop of red wine, cheese and biscuits before a final delirious (and possibly slightly drunken) run downhill back to the vineyard. It’s seemed like only just over a mile in between drinks!

With all runners in a happy and boisterous mode this was good natured fun all the way. And to end with huge slices of pineapple img_3743at the finish, a glittering large medal, technical tee shirt, free drink and BBQ afterwards this was, despite a £46 entry fee, good value! And for non-drinkers soft drinks and water were available at each station.

Everyone wants to go back in 2017, and I’m sure rather than a minibus we could take a full coach if all the interest turns into action! Remember, if you DO want to take part, BOOK EARLY as this sells out every year well ahead of the day!

Finally, after starting by referring to Jenny whose review got the ball rolling in 2015, I must mention Nikki whose energy got the 2016 crew together, arranged the minibus etc, and then through illness had to pull out at the last minute! Next year then Nikki!!!

And of course big thanks as usual for Mark who organised the minibus, and Brian who drove it selflessly and loyally waited by the finishing line to take photographs!

Henfield Half Marathon Results 2016

Henfield Joggers News

The rain held off on a blustery Sunday but some fantastic times were set.

Nikki, Scott and DaisyDog cranked the laptop up in Paul and Alison’s absence and produced the results. Any errors are down to lack of cake and tea supplies during this stressful task…

Henfield Half Marathon Results 2016

Well done to all of those who took part, and to those that helped support this event for Simon at the Henfield Leisure Centre.

Saturday Morning 13th August

I suggest the Truleigh aka ‘the Big Hill’ on Saturday. It’s 13 miles, but going up from Golding Barn is slightly easier than from the Cement Works and there should be few, if any, nettles or brambles! As usual, there are plenty of opportunities for short cuts.

Seven Stiles Results

Well what a fabulous morning we had! Unlike last year when the heavens opened and we got DRENCHED today was quite warm, though we did get a tiny sprinkle, not at all what we had planned for the weekend! Anyway, congratulations to EVERYONE who took part today, and you can find the full results here. Please note that these are the REVISED results updated on Wednesday evening 27th July, after we had identified the Unknown runner at position 311! Yay!

Many thanks to EVERYONE who helped, marshalled, organised, ran errands on the day, and of course to EVERYONE who came and ran and made this such a great day. We hope noone was impacted by the parking and certainly we marshalled the car access so that people were directed away – but with 417 Senior and 85 Junior runners plus family, we had a lot of people on the day!

Please let us know by emailing sevenstiles@henfieldjoggers.co.uk if you have any queries.

Updated Pub Run list

During summer months we tend to move around a bit on Wednesdays as we explore the beautiful Sussex countryside and Downland. You can always plan ahead though as the ‘Where to Find Us’ section will always have the latest information and links to the details, as well as the Events calendar. The latest version of the schedule has just been applied and can be found here.

Saturday Morning 11th June

I suggest the Convent Run this Saturday – it’s 12 or 13 miles, depending on the route, pretty flat and we have been known to call in at The Bull on the way home on warm days for liquid refreshment, i.e. water. As usual, there are plenty of opportunities for short cuts.

Handicap Results – June

Here are the last handicap results before the summer break.  The next run will be in September using the summer course for the last time this year.   (Chris promises to check for long grass after such a long break, but that’s for another day!)
We have a clear leader at present 🙂 but that doesn’t mean that it is all over, oh no – the point scoring is such that there are still many opportunities for some catching up, so it still has a long way to run (see what I did there!)
Might be worth mentioning that a further two runners, just graduated from the beginners course, mistook the route, being unfamiliar with the local landmark, Hen Heaven and the refrigerator, and continued to the left down Stonepit lane, and emerged at West End Lane.  They were sufficiently well up in the field that our sweeper did not see them go astray.  All well, and
eventually accounted for, after 1 hr. 10 min. but it does reinforce the importance of Chris knowing who has gone out onto the course.  Fortunately all was well and all runners were recovered safely!

Beginners/Returners Follow on Group

Having completed the Beginners/Returners course, we are looking forward to seeing the new group of Joggers continuing to enjoy their running and to seeing you at the regular Wednesday evening club nights.

To support that, there will be a short series of Friday night runs from Henfield Leisure Centre which will give the opportunity to consolidate and build on the achievements which the group made on the course.

We’ll start at about four miles and over six weeks we’ll build up the distance at a comfortable pace and see where that takes us.

Those who’ve recently completed the course and more established Joggers are all welcome to meet me at 7pm at Henfield Leisure Centre this Friday 27th May. The weather looks kind at the moment, so what better way to end the week than with a run in the countryside!

All the best
