Saturday Morning 19th September

On Saturday the 19th of September we will be doing a 19ish miler running from Henfield to the Half Moon pub in Plumpton going via upper beeding onto the South Downs Way. We aim to leave as usual at 8am from HLC and estimate getting to the pub around 12ish for lunch. So we can organize booking a table and organizing cars the other end etc please let me know if you plan on coming! Obviously people could start at any point on the route if they wanted to do less miles and also people could meet us in the pub! Please see the HJ Facebook group or email me for more details: daniellekaelinrvn@aol.co.uk

Saturday Morning 12th September

I suggest we do the Convent Run tomorrow – it’s about 12 miles and pretty flat with plenty of shortcuts. Perhaps we should include Sayers Common this time.

Start Running/Return to Running Course

Come and join Henfield Joggers next ‘beginners /returners to running’ programme on Wednesday 6th April 2016, 7pm at Henfield Leisure Centre
This is an 8 week walk/run programme led by Cathy Walker, certified Run England ‘Leadership in Running Fitness’ coach, building up to a 5k run, and all levels are welcome, with both on and off road running although at this time of year it will be 90% on the roads. The course costs £25 but includes 15 months membership to Henfield Joggers (valid until January 2017) which brings all the benefits of membership too since we are a friendly club for whom socialising is as important as the running! As an additional benefit you can acquire one of our lovely green running vests for a greatly reduced £10 on completion of your first ‘West Sussex Fun Run League’ event!
For more information just contact us at: beginners@henfieldjoggers.co.uk, or turn up on the night
If you’re already running and just want some additional motivation, advice, or simply to run with like-minded people, then come and meet us, there’s no pressure to join immediately so come and check us out first, new members are always very welcome. From April to the end of September we’re ‘out and about’ with various pub runs, events etc, so check our ‘find us’ page for details. The rest of the year you’ll find us most Wednesday evening at Henfield Leisure Centre for both on and off-road runs (yes, we go off road even in the dark of winter!) but then, we also have a WINTER pub run schedule too (we like pubs!) so check out where we are first!

Saturday Morning 5th September

We all have different agendas, of course, so it’s virtually impossible to plan a run that suits everyone. However I think it would be a retrograde step if people started doing their own thing – one of the strengths of the Joggers is that we don’t usually split up into groups, despite the range of ability and the runbacks are helping with this. I suggest we do the Poynings run this Saturday. It’s about 12 miles and pretty flat with opportunities for shortcuts. If anyone wants a longer run, they can either carry on up the A23 to Hickstead and return via Wineham or do a loop round the village at the end

Wednesday Night/Club Night Run 2nd September

Sorry this evening’s route is a bit late, but I only got back from Wales this afternoon. Very long walk in the Black Mountains yesterday, so neither Max nor I are looking for anything too ambitious. This is about 6 miles and the grass will be wet and could be long in places, but hey that’s what c/c is all about!

Saturday Morning 29th August

By popular demand it’s the ‘big hill’ this Saturday. 13.5 miles and 1,500 feet of ascent, although there are the usual shortcuts and even extensions available. There will be refreshments at Golding Barn and there’s water at the Youth Hostel, of course. The pace will be steady, runbacks are de rigueur and conversation is encouraged. In the words of Ellie Goulding, ‘what are you waiting for’?

A Wet and Windy Hornet Stinger

Once again it’s Sunday morning and I am pulling on my running gear with the prospect of a hilly 9.5k run. The Hove Stinger is where we are headed. This fun run is only in its 2nd year, so most of us had no idea of what lay ahead…which is always a good thing. After meeting by our flag, getting our numbers from Dani and having a pre-run photo shoot we headed off for the 1m walk to the start point. Nice gentle way to warm up and by this time it was starting to drizzle with rain. Strange thing is with this running lark, is that cloudy skies and light’ish rain is really really welcome. This run would have been 10 times harder in yesterday’s sun and heat.

The first 4k of this run was purely up hill…..reasonably gentle up hill, but it was a long climb and as always, I appreciated the encouragement from other runners every time I wanted stop and walk. The route took you out from Waterhall and over towards Saddlescombe where there was a water station, before another sharp climb up before you headed back south. It was a great route with fantastic marshalling. One girl in particular at the 2k/8k(ish) mark was brilliant. If they gave Oscars for marshalling, she would definitely be up for one.

The scenery on this run was fantastic and that was on a windy and very wet morning – it would have been stunning on a clear day.
There were definitely fewer runners than at the Tilgate 5m last Sunday and this seemed to give a more relaxed and chilled out vibe. As always, it was great to be cheered back across the finish line by the HJ’s and how delicious was that wedge of orange they were handing out with the water?!!
It was then back to the club house for hot drinks and a free raffle – which saw Mandy winning that last bottle of Prosecco!!

Rather like the Roundhill Romp, I enjoyed this run a lot more than I had anticipated and I would encourage anyone who hasn’t done this one to definitely give it a go next year!!

Henfield Half Marathon Results

Those of us unable to run the Hove Hornets ‘Stinger’ Fun Run this morning were helping out at the Henfield Half Marathon which our ‘home base’ Henfield Leisure Centre arrange each year. With 226 entries for a ‘late-midsummer’ trail run, this is a popular event despite being hit by heavy rain, the temperature ranging from mad hot when the sun was out, to pretty cool when it rained! Despite this 200 sometimes bedraggled runners came home in some very respectable times indeed. I’m always impressed at how far people travel to take part in this one, with Clubs in Kent and Hampshire coming along, as well as even as far as York!

As always many thanks to everyone who helped organise, marshal, timekeep or ‘result’ – it takes a lot of people to make something like this happen, and great teamwork to make it happen like clockwork!

Below are a couple of video clips from Simon Funnell flying his drone near the Cat & Canary and the finish line (briefly – the batteries ran out!).

Results are below – any queries then please email enquiries@henfieldjoggers.co.uk. The results are also available on the Henfield Leisure Centre website!

And some nice feedback too:

A big thank you to everyone that helped out with the run.

I really appreciate it.

Thanks again

Simon Thompson – HLC

Just wanted to say thank you for laying on a fabulous route and marshalled so well. You could have arranged the weather to have been perfect as the route and the organisation 😉 thank you I really enjoyed it and the value puts other events I have done to shame.

Thanks everyone and thanks to the marshalls who gave up their Sunday morning. Big shout out to the marshall around 11 miles who had a sneaky can of Fosters on the go. Made me smile. Matthew Garrett-Dyke

Hmmmm – Mile 11 – let me see – Brian Bracey perhaps?

Thanks everyone. So blimmin’ chuffed we did it! Thoroughly recommend it as a course – really pretty and marshalls were all lovely despite the rain. Happy Sunday! Chloe Garrett-Dyke

Amazing value & great fun! Claire Denny

I’d totally recommend as a nice and very good value event with notably good marshalling Jack Chivers

Saturday Morning 22nd August

This is Saturday’s suggested run of about 10 miles, unless we need to check out part of the half marathon course. The route is an alternative to the usual one to Upper Beeding along the Downs Link, so there won’t be an opportunity for any ‘burn ups’!
