This is the suggested route on Saturday morning, starting at 7.45am to enable those who are marshalling to reach Saddlescombe by 9am with ease. The complete run for those not marshalling is about 13 miles and is similar to a fortnight ago, but again includes hills, as requested!

Handicap Results – May
The May Handicap results are now live here.
Chris thanks Andy James for acting as timekeeper this month.
In view of the continuing wet conditions, particularly at a field corner between leisure centre and the Downslink, runners were given a free choice between Summer and Winter routes. 3 took the winter route.
2018 Henfield Seven Stiles – Sunday July 29th
The annual Henfield Seven Stiles event is a West Sussex Fun Run League fixture but open to all. Organised in conjunction with Henfield Leisure Centre it features a 1 mile race at 10:15 and the main 4 mile race at 11:00.
The main race numbers are restricted to 500 so please apply early using the link to the entry form below
New for 2018
- Learning from last years toilet queues we will have additional portable toilet facilities this year
- Registration/Late Entries administration has been reviewed and will be upgraded, including a separate ‘Club Entries’ desk in order to improve efficiency and relieve congestion
- A new access road is being built in June/July with additional parking behind the Leisure Centre. This may be completed by race day, but it also may still be under construction. The Start/Finish area routing for the main race may need to be changed in line with the impact this has on the existing route out of the playing field, and in accordance with any safety concerns. For obvious reasons (meaning that the exact disruption isn’t known until they start construction!) this will be done close to the day and will be clearly marked. The rest of the route will be unaffected
- For the same reason the Junior route will also be diverted and as such will be partly a new route. Again this will be clearly signed and closely marshalled
The 4 mile route is a mostly flat off road run along trails that run via the Downslink and beside the Adur River, starting and finishing at Henfield Leisure Centre
A feature of this event is that we will issue a medal to all finishers of BOTH races – we like medals and we know that you do too!
Also – cake and refreshments will be on sale within the Leisure Centre this year – we know you like cake too!

Seven Stiles Junior Route

Seven Stiles Main Route

Saturday Morning 12th May
I suggest this route on Saturday in our continuing quest for bluebells. It’s only about 10 miles and I think covers different ground from the previous 2 weeks. For the benefit of any PG runners, who would prefer a shorter run, we should be at the Lock Farm road junction at around 8.30am.

April Handicap Results
You can find the April Handicap results here. It has emerged that there are small errors in the January and March results, and these are now updated. Jenny Backshall had an unreal ‘best previous time’ calculated, giving her an unusually demanding target time to beat. In correction, her target time is corrected, and she earns an extra 2 points from each of those races. Unfortunately Alison, Eb, Emma and Sian each lose one point to balance this.
As a consequence of the heavy rains in March, the April run was switched to the Winter route (except that Bob Wallace chose to follow the Summer route, and reported running along the wet river bank, between a high water level in the river, and flooded meadows alongside, as the land water was unable to escape into the river.)
For the present, the overall results show the summations using the conventional split between Winter and Summer routes. Historically, there has not been a visible difference in timings between the routes.
—next Wednesday, Andy will timekeep the Handicap, as Chris shall be out, as a beginner, on the beginners’ course. Unless the predicted rain affects the course, we shall be using the SUMMER route, which you can find here as a refresher of the course.
Finish for Matt
In memory of Matt Campbell, the young man who died while taking part in the London Marathon this year, a nationwide campaign called Finish for Matt has sprung up with people paying their respects by running the 3.7 miles that Matt had left to run on Sunday, and then donating £5 (or whatever amount you feel appropriate) to the Brathay Trust charity for which he was raising money. The route (clickwise for the avoidance of doubt) is below.
Henfield Joggers are marking this on Thursday evening (26th April) at 7pm – meet at Henfield Leisure Centre and we will cover our own 3.7 miles in Matts memory.
You can donate to the Charity on Matts Just Giving page here:

Saturday Morning 14th April
I suggest we do the Convent run tomorrow morning, cutting across from the Bull. It’s about 12 miles and, although we are likely to get our feet wet at this point, if not before, it’s not far from home!

Facebook Feed
As many of you know, for those people not using Facebook we have a page on the website that links to the Facebook Group and allows all posts and images to be viewed, and this has proven a popular facility given the usage that page has received, according to the tracking statistics for the website.
Sadly, we have a problem with this that has just occurred. I repeat below the message that our provider has published. We are looking for a workaround but for the moment it is no longer possible to view the Henfield Joggers Facebook Group from this website :(.

Facebook API Changes – April 4, 2018
Due to some sudden changes that Facebook has made to their API on April 4th, 2018, some features of our Custom Facebook Feed plugin will no longer be available. We apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this has caused. Unfortunately, Facebook gave no warning that these changes would be coming into effect, and they affect all Facebook plugins.
How will these changes affect the Custom Facebook Feed plugin?
Group Feeds
It is no longer possible to display content of any kind from a Facebook Group. It is still possible to display content from public Facebook Pages.
Saturday Morning 7th April
We are now in the tapering period for people running the VLM and we’ve probably had enough hills for a while, so I suggest we do the Poynings run on Saturday. It’s just over 12 miles and there shouldn’t be extensive stretches of mud, although it could be muddy in places – less so if we run across the Common and through Woodmancote, rather than via Holedean Farm and Oreham Common.

If you want to join and enjoy the benefits of being a member, then now is also the time as you will get a full years membership by joining now. Additionally, and no pressure, new for this year is that the club will only receive an automatic entry into the London marathon to raffle if we have 10 or more members! Membership is totally voluntary and independent of the Club, BUT you can only join England Athletics THROUGH the Club! The link to the benefits you receive is below – please make your own judgement.
