London Marathon Club Entry

IMPORTANT!
As you will see from Dani’s post, and all weekly newsletters over the last month, its the AGM this Wednesday – a key part of which will be the drawing of names(s) for the London Marathon. The Club, being registered with England Athletics, should receive one place in the 2018 event thanks to the 13 members who registered and paid for England Athletics membership. I have applied for this place on behalf of the Club, though it may be up to 12th December before I receive confirmation. However we will perform the draw on Wednesday regardless of whether I have heard back or not at that point, and I’ll confirm the details to the lucky person at that point.

So – ACTION NEEDED! If you entered VLM 2018 and were unsuccessful, and wish to enter the ballot, then please send a copy of your Rejection Email (or a picture of your Rejection letter) via email to: Enquiries@henfieldjoggers.co.uk – I’d rather you did it this way as it ensures I have all the entries in one place, and I will use the emails to physically put in the draw on Wednesday, so please don’t IM me, text me, or tell me – just email will do thanks!! No email = no entry, so don’t assume on this – I will confirm receipt of every email, so you will know that it has been received. Entries close at NOON on WEDNESDAY so get cracking!!!

One last thing – the rules by Virgin/UK Athletics evolve each year – they now state that only Clubs with 10 or more REGISTERED and PAID UP athletes will get a guaranteed place – if we drop to less than 10 then all clubs in that category go into a hat and are randomly allocated 20 places – ie its another lottery! So firstly thank you to those 13 people who registered this year with England Athletics as it is thanks to YOU that the CLUB has a place – and a warning that if we don’t have enough people registering with England Athletics next year then we could drop below the threshold and no longer be guaranteed a place. Thems the facts folks!!

Saturday 21st October

After the exertions of last Saturday and the previous weekend, I am not planning a particularly long run this Saturday, so suggest the route below, which shouldn’t be very muddy, even if it’s raining. As it’s less than 10 miles and has an easy-to-follow shortcut, maybe it will appeal to those who don’t usually join us on Saturday mornings….

Saturday 14th October

We are planning to run the western Beachy route in Saturday, starting from Cuckmere Haven, and including the seemingly endless hill out of Alfriston that we all know and love! A few people have expressed an interest in a shorter route and the one below not only omits the hill, but also reduces the distance to no more than 10 miles. There is an option at Litlington to follow the usual route up the steps or to stay on the river bank all the way to the Exceat Bridge.

Saturday 7th October

It’s a while since we did a really long run and so I suggest this route of about 17 miles on Saturday, particularly for those doing Beachy. There are plenty of opportunities for shortcuts and there’s only one proper hill! Drinks and Mars bars or bananas will be available about half way round, as an added incentive.

Winter Season midweek runs announced

As we move from the season of light to the season of dark (and damp, and cool….) Hugh has devised a schedule for Wednesdays through until March. You can always find out where the main HJ group is running from on the Find Us page here. Though there will almost always be a group running from Henfield Leisure Centre on a Wednesday – check out the Facebook group for up to the minute details and updates.

Latest and Revised Handicap Results

The latest September results are in – I wont spoil the suspense not least because this message from Chris explains why every Months results in 2017 have been revised!!

“Chris apologises for gremlins which have crept into the results back to the start of the year.  This came to light when Andy James pointed out that Eb Gargano seemed to have an extremely ambitious target time for her run in June.  Investigation showed this to be the result of a transcription error, easy to correct. However the wrong time did not appear to have had the severe adverse effect in the results to be expected.

Further probing revealed that the code to implement the ‘best time from the last three’ rule was incorrect for Eb and for a further 8 runners (fortunately not all active in recent months).  The results from the start of the year have therefore been recalculated, but this has altered the points for other runners as well.  In most cases, the difference is 1 point, but in three cases, changes of 3,5,and 5 points emerged in the results to June.

Hopefully, all is now in order.”
