Volunteer Marshals needed, South Downs Way Relay – Saturday 3rd June

We’re starting the appeal for volunteers to marshal at Saddlescombe for this event , roughly 10am to 1pm. You will be assisting Nick Sayers who will again manage this station, and it will of course be a fun, rewarding, and usually CAKEFUL! morning.

This is the most complex changeover point for the relay in the whole 100 mile course, due to the dangerous nature of the road, the hilly terrain and the Car Park, so we need a big team, so if you want to bring family or friends, they will be gratefully accepted

In recent years Henfield Joggers have been praised by the organisers for running the best marshalling point, and therefore you’ll be part of a respected and successful team.

We need to: Manage the car parking in the Devils Dyke road car park up the hill (not the one next to Devils Dyke pub); Manage each side of the main road to ensure safety at all times as runners enter and leave the marshalling point; and have spotters ‘up the hill’ (Newtimber Hill) to radio back the incoming runners (yes, radio! We now have 4 radio sets for use here).

With 55 teams registered this means 55 incoming minibuses to park, 55 outgoing minibuses to check out, 110 runners in total (55 in and 55 out) to manage, and about 400 people coming through in one way or another. It’s a terrific time, it’s very active and dynamic, and obviously our own Henfield Joggers relay team will be in there coming through.

Feel free to ask any questions and especially newer members, please come along and help out, don’t be shy!! It’s a one-off annual event so it’s a great opportunity.

Please help if you can, email: enquiries@henfieldjoggers.co.uk

Enhanced Facebook Feed

While many Joggers are active participants on the Facebook page, not everyone is a social media warrior! To allow everyone to share in the fun we created a special page to view the Facebook activity, which I know gets a lot of views. However this didn’t allow anyone to view images or links. To correct this and create a much better experience I have now upgraded the page so that images and weblinks are now enabled and accessible. This should create a more inclusive and ‘Jogger-friendly’ website! If anyone has any views or thoughts, then just leave a comment!

Henfield 9 Results

On a glorious sunny, dry (but still a tad windy!) Mothering Sunday morning congratulations go to all the runners who made the journey to Henfield Leisure Centre for the annual Henfield 9, and of course to all the volunteers and marshals from both Henfield Joggers and the Leisure Centre (and friends and family!) who made the event happen! Congratulations to the first three runners, Martin Footman and Jamie Corbett of Worthing Harriers in first and second places, followed by our own Mark Furth in third place

Saturday Morning 18th March

Hi everyone-something a little different is on offer for this Saturday. Meet at HLC for 8am as usual and we will run/jog/walk/crawl to The George and Dragon pub at Houghton, where lunch will be taken!

This will take us c19 miles across the Downs, down via Bramber to pick up the South Downs Way and then basically following what would be Legs 8, 9 and 10 of the SDWR to the pub!

There may be a smaller group doing a more traditional Saturday Morning but the main group will be heading to Houghton. And there will definitely be a second group rendezvousing on Steyning Bostal for a shorter but equally lovely run to the pub. Feel free to join in along the way!!

Transport back will be in several cars meeting us at the pub, to reserve a place contact Paul or Andy or email: enquiries@henfieldjoggers.co.uk. We would aim to be at the pub around 12:30 to 1pm.

Saturday Morning 14th January

Not one but TWO options for everyone, which is becoming more of a standard feature these days!

8.00 HLC – Hugh – I think several people are running in an event on Sunday, but for those who want a Saturday run, I suggest we run up the Downslink, possibly as far as Copsale, which would be 13 miles of flat running there and back. I did wonder whether we could meet up with PG runners, but apparently they prefer to run south later!

9.15 HLC – Liz – We are planning a run tomorrow following the Henfield 9 route. Meeting at HLC 9.15am or at Downslink – bottom of Station Road – at 9.30am. Let me know if you fancy coming. 🙂
