May Handicap Results

Well the final Handicap of the abbreviated 2019 Grace Wells Trophy season has already been won, and the winner will be announced at the Summer Social by Chris Bradfield. To elevate the tension, now that the final race is run, here are the belated May results which sets up a nailbiting finale – the result of which has already been determined as you read this, but only one man knows, and he isn’t telling! Good luck everyone!

You can find the results here:

The cumulative results here are of course calculated for the short series (6 months only, January to June) for 2019, which your Committee has decided will be run, as a transition to allow a 2019-20 series to run from September this year to June next year.

The Winter series for this short 2019 series is now complete, and to match the 3 + 3 runs which will make up this whole series, the ‘best runs to count’ calculation is here 2 out of 3 for each of Winter and Summer series.  The runs to count calculation for the 2019-20 series will revert to previous practice, once the new series starts in September.

Henfield Joggers Seven Stiles

This years Seven Stiles event will be held on Sunday morning 28th July 2019. All the details and an entry form can be found here.

It should no longer surprise anyone that there are not actually seven stiles! Rest assured, there used to be but over the years while the route has been largely unchanged, the stiles have been removed. How many are there now? You’ll have to count! NO prizes for getting that answer correct! We have toyed with changing the name to suit the reduced number but decided, in the same spirit of Sevenoaks which after the hurricane in 1987 no longer actually has the titular number of oak trees, that the name reflects the legacy of the event, and is a timeless classic within the Fun Run season. Honest!

The one aspect that we emphasise each year is that of car parking. The Leisure Centre has limited parking, and we try to prioritise this for the other users of the facilities on the day. We therefore encourage everyone to use the main car parks in Henfield (marked on the page linked above) and undertake the short 10 minute walk to the Leisure Centre. We do deploy car parking marshals to monitor people trying to access the Leisure Centre via Northcroft, and people will be turned away as soon as available parking is full. It’s much easier if you simply go straight to one of the two main FREE (on a Sunday) car parks in the High Street. The easiest route from the High Street (using the Post Office as a reference point) is marked on the map below and takes 10 minutes:

England Athletics Renewal/Membership

England Athletics registration/renewal for 2019/20 is now open. If you are an existing member this lapses on 31 March, and if you want to join now is the time to do so as you will get the benefit of a full years membership. The cost is £15, unchanged from last year.

As a reminder, this is an entirely optional, additional membership to Henfield Joggers, that registers you as an ‘athlete’ (yeah I know, I am a member just to get a kick from having a card saying ‘registered athlete’!!). Membership runs 1st April to 31st March, and you can only join through a registered Club (which Henfield Joggers is/are). I do the registration for you, you pay Henfield Joggers £15 (BACS preferable with EA as the reference) and we pay England Athletics and register you.

There is often confusion between Club registration with England Athletics and Individual. The Clubs affiliation number is often all you need when securing entry discounts and is available to everyone, but equally there are times when only Individual Members can get the discount, and the number you need for this is your own England Athletics number (if you are a member)

The benefit to the Club overall is that we need 10 people minimum to sign up so that the Club qualifies for receiving one guaranteed entry to the London Marathon each year. If fewer than 10 sign up then the Club is not guaranteed a place but is entered into a ballot instead.

The benefits to you as an individual are on the England Athletics website – the link is here. Please make your own judgement and if you want to register let me know below, and transfer £15 to the HJ Bank Account. I will do the rest.
