Boxing Day Run

This is the route for the Boxing Day run. It’s just over 9 miles anticlockwise and, whilst dry feet are by no means guaranteed, there will be no waist, or even thigh-deep, water to wade through! It starts at HLC at 9am – taking it slowly, of course!

November Handicap Results

The latest results are now available here. It is of course still early days for any results to be significant, as this revised season ends in June.  However its pleasant to see that we have more active participants than we would have had in previous years! Remember that the next Handicap is on December 4th, and the January 2020 Handicap is deferred to 8th January!

The October Handicap Results can be found here. Remember this is only Month 2 of 10 months ending in June 2020 – its a Marathon not a sprint! Though thinking about it everyone who completes all 10 runs will have covered more than 35 miles – its your very own Ultra-Marathon!

Handicap Results – September

Here are the first results for the new handicap season, which will run from this September to next June.

For newcomers, a brief explanation of key entries:

Congratulations to Jo Cole.  Her actual time is 5m 16s inside her target time, so she comes top of the points score, not because she was the first home (though there may be a slight connection!)

Alan Barwick is a long-established member, but has not run the handicap for a long period, partly due to injuries, so his previous target time is deleted and he starts as a new entrant, and this month will set his target time for the next race.

4 of the last 5 timings are for new entrants to the handicap.  Welcome to the series, and we hope that you will succeed in monitoring and improving your times. Your times this month set your target time for the next race.

The overall  points table will appear from next month.  As the footnote says, everyone entering gets an additional 2 attendance points, and new entrants get 3 points as a token for their initial entry. Serious points are earned from your next race onwards.

May Handicap Results

Well the final Handicap of the abbreviated 2019 Grace Wells Trophy season has already been won, and the winner will be announced at the Summer Social by Chris Bradfield. To elevate the tension, now that the final race is run, here are the belated May results which sets up a nailbiting finale – the result of which has already been determined as you read this, but only one man knows, and he isn’t telling! Good luck everyone!

You can find the results here:

The cumulative results here are of course calculated for the short series (6 months only, January to June) for 2019, which your Committee has decided will be run, as a transition to allow a 2019-20 series to run from September this year to June next year.

The Winter series for this short 2019 series is now complete, and to match the 3 + 3 runs which will make up this whole series, the ‘best runs to count’ calculation is here 2 out of 3 for each of Winter and Summer series.  The runs to count calculation for the 2019-20 series will revert to previous practice, once the new series starts in September.

Henfield Joggers Seven Stiles

This years Seven Stiles event will be held on Sunday morning 28th July 2019. All the details and an entry form can be found here.

It should no longer surprise anyone that there are not actually seven stiles! Rest assured, there used to be but over the years while the route has been largely unchanged, the stiles have been removed. How many are there now? You’ll have to count! NO prizes for getting that answer correct! We have toyed with changing the name to suit the reduced number but decided, in the same spirit of Sevenoaks which after the hurricane in 1987 no longer actually has the titular number of oak trees, that the name reflects the legacy of the event, and is a timeless classic within the Fun Run season. Honest!

The one aspect that we emphasise each year is that of car parking. The Leisure Centre has limited parking, and we try to prioritise this for the other users of the facilities on the day. We therefore encourage everyone to use the main car parks in Henfield (marked on the page linked above) and undertake the short 10 minute walk to the Leisure Centre. We do deploy car parking marshals to monitor people trying to access the Leisure Centre via Northcroft, and people will be turned away as soon as available parking is full. It’s much easier if you simply go straight to one of the two main FREE (on a Sunday) car parks in the High Street. The easiest route from the High Street (using the Post Office as a reference point) is marked on the map below and takes 10 minutes:
