South Downs Relay

What a fantastic day we had! As a first timer I was extremely nervous and my preparation had been not quite as I’d hoped. But the whole day was about participation, determination, and a team spirit that was true to the Henfield Joggers ethos. Everyone supported everyone, from the fastest runner ( Andy) to the Fingerpostslowest (me) no one did anything except encourage, there was humour, and at the end of the day there was alcohol! It was great to finish leg 6 at Saddlescombe and see the welcoming faces of the Henfield Joggers marshals, though how we picked up Hugh along the way no one is quite sure yet? The photographs are all live in the gallery for everyone to share in the day. The sun shining was, of course, the icing on the cake. How lucky we are to have the Downs on our doorstep, there really is no other part of the country like it, and to see the whole length in a day, some of it ‘up close and Start Grouppersonal’, was a total joy. The 4.30am alarm was a bit early, but being at Beachy Head at 6am with the sun on the sea was fantastic……..at 1.30am Sunday morning the bus was a little quiet though! There are so many people to thank for making this happen that I can’t list them all, and the many previous years that teams have run are all part of where we are today. However Mark and Richard must have a specific mention, because without them it wouldn’t have happened, Thank You! We had to cut down to only one team this year as people weren’t available, but we hope that we could run two teams again next year, if enough people show interest and if we’re allowed. I want to do it all over again, it really was that good!

Charity Walk – British Heart Foundation

In case I haven’t already mentioned, I am taking part in our Company charity walk in about 2 weeks, eek! My aim is to walk 30 miles of the South Downs Way. Training is in hand, but it still seems a very long way over undulating terrain! As a team we are doing this in aid of British Heart Foundation, the UK’s number one heart charity dedicated to the fight against heart disease. With more people surviving a heart attack or cardiac arrest than ever before, that means more people are now living with heart disease and need BHF help.

If you feel able to make a donation to incentivise me along the way, please check out our Company Just Giving Page.

Thanking you for your support.

Hedgehoppers 5 Mile

Well done to everyone for braving the ‘U’ word (Uphill for those not in the know) and running Hedgehoppers on a bright and blustery Sunday morning! Its an ‘undulating’ course which means ‘they lie a lot!’…….uphill to Devils Dyke in the first half, but with some downhill bits, reversing in the second half to ‘mostly’ downhill, with some uphill bits including the cheeky one to the finish! And Gill won a ‘spot prize’, though she doesn’t even have spots!

Three Forts

Well done to Terry and Mark who ran the Three Forts Marathon today, running together they finished in 5:18 in conditions radically different to 2012! Mark is particularly pleased to have overtaken his hard core mate Andy Bridger in the last half mile, the first time Mark has beaten him! And lets not forget that this was Terrys THIRD marathon in 4 weeks!
