DESCRIPTION:BN5 Magazine have been aware of the great work of the Brain Tumour Charity since Olivia from Hamfelds was diagnosed last year. Olivia’s pledge has always been to raise as much awareness and funds for this charity as possible\, and since her health has deteriorated recently Emma has come up with an idea to ‘Walk for Olivia’ to show our support\, as well as raise awareness and money for this great charity. \nHer plan is for two community walks\, running simultaneously (details below) as well as a ‘Run for Olivia’ for which we\, Henfield Joggers\, are picking up the challenge. These THREE events will all be starting at 2pm from Cagefoot Lane in Henfield – Archie will be in attendance at the start and finish\, with all events finishing at Henfield Hall. \n1) The run will follow the same route as the Cross Country walk and starts at Stokes Garden in Cagefoot Lane\, through the village and across fields to the Downs Link and along the river bank back into Henfield and finishing at the Garden Room\, covering around 4 miles. \n2) The Twittens Walk is a short loop starting at Stokes Garden in Cagefoot Lane\, past the Tanyard Pond\, St Peter’s and along Church Street. Then back up the High Street to finish in the Garden Room\, Henfield Hall. Approximate distance 1km (2/3 mile) taking around 15 mins. Pushchair\, wheelchair and mobility scooter friendly! \nAfterwards\, there will be tea and homemade cakes at the Garden Room and a BP Guild barbeque in the garden selling hot-dogs. Every penny raised will go to the Brain Tumour Charity. \nIf you have family and friends who want to walk\, then there is something for everyone. SUMMARY:Trundle Hill 10k - Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:Probably the most distant race from Henfield\, on a late Spring/early Summer evening\, this is a most beautiful event. The course of approximately 10k heads north along Marsh Lane following public footpaths to take in a lap of the Iron-age hill fort before returning along the same route. It is\, there is no doubt\, uphill\, but not by as much as people think. The start is outside the Village Hall\, then along fairly flat trails for about a mile or so before turning right and starting the ascent of about 1 mile on mostly flint tracks to the top of Trundle Hill\, with magnificent views down onto Goodwood Racecourse and out across the Channel. Then its around the top of the summit and back down the same route\, this time at a canter. Trust me\, its an event worth turning up to! \nThere are strong uphill (and downhill!) elements to this one – but it really is worth it!

DESCRIPTION:Run by Lisa Beaney\, also of Steyning Joggers. Lisa is a qualified ‘Run Group Leader’ after undertaking Run England’s ‘Coaching in Running Fitness Course’ (You can see more about Lisa here). \nRun on one Wednesday of every month\, this FREE session is open to all members and covers all standards and abilities. All that is required is a desire to improve\, however small\, and a positive\, willing attitude. Meet at the Leisure Centre at 7pm as usual and Lisa will guide everyone through a programme that changes each time to focus on different aspects of running\, but following the same format: \n\nMeet in the Reception at the Leisure Centre for a briefing\nLisa will lead a warmup session\nThen we head off as a group to undertake the evenings activities\nReturn to the Leisure Centre for a comprehensive warm-down and stretching session\n\nLisa is available for any individual questions and advice during this time. The whole session should last about an hour\, finishing around 8pm.

DESCRIPTION:I would like his ashes scattered somewhere around the top of the Steyning Bowl\, as the circuit from there via Chanctonbury and Cissbury was one of our favourite walks. It’s 7 miles\, including the circuit of Cissbury which is about a mile. Anyone wanting a longer run could add another 3 mile loop by following the 3 Forts route towards Findon. \nMeet at HLC at 8am\, as usual\, then in cars head up to the Steyning Bostal\, starting the run about 8.30am. Lifts will be available. There will be a choice of distances of 6\,7 and 10 miles [not shown] and Max’s ashes will be scattered at an appropriate place.

DESCRIPTION:Tonight will be an opportunity to either run on road around the village in one group\, or offroad with torches in another. After their amazing exploits on Sunday\, I assume those who did the Winter Tanners will be looking not only for a short run\, but also\, if possible\, to avoid mud. This 5 mile route more or less fits the bill\, although\, as usual\, totally dry feet can never be guaranteed!

DESCRIPTION:By ‘popular’ request there WILL be a run on Christmas Eve morning\, to clear the mind and free the spirit before the main event! A slightly later 9am start from Henfield Leisure Centre and Hugh promises a ‘gentle’ run (it’s Christmas Eve for Heavens sake!) on trails\, but it will be lovely. Songs may be sung (or may not as I will be in Japan by then\, you will be relieved to hear!!). \nThe run will end at Andy & Suzies house where mince pies/sausage rolls/hot chocolate/mulled wine will be on offer (that list was VERY specific!) and entirely down to their generosity! \nFurther details will be via the weekly email \nMerry Christmas everybody \nUPDATE \nThis is the suggested run on Saturday morning\, starting at 9am from HLC and ending at Andy and Suzie’s house [address unknown]. It’s only 7.5 miles and there are no hills\, so it should appeal to everyone! \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Fittleworth Five - Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:A five mile\, multi-terrain course of scenic country lanes and woodland bridle paths\, undulating throughout and in deepest Sussex\, beautiful! \nHenfield Joggers only\, it’s £3 if you book with me or £5 if you turn up on the day…….you know pre-booking makes sense! \nIts a lovely run though narrow and slightly undulating so I grade this a Paulie level 2. \nFor a course map click here: \nArriving\nArriving in Fittleworth\, you will be directed to car parking\, principally at the back of the Village Hall and in the school car park and playground next door. If you do have to park on the roads around the venue\, please have consideration for other road users\, residents\, and pedestrians. \nThe Village Hall is the base\, report here for registration and for use of toilet and changing facilities. You may also leave kit at the Village Hall (at your own risk\, although we’ve never had a problem). Please note that dogs are not permitted on the recreation ground next to Fittleworth Village Hall. \nAfter registration\, there is a 10 minute walk to the start in Limbourne Lane. \nThe Start\nThis is in a narrow lane\, so patience and personal space are important! You’ll turn around to face and start running back the way you’ve just walked\, so it’s a good idea for not-so-fast people to walk past those ready to race. \nRefreshments\nAt the Village Hall\, showers are available\, but more importantly ample tea and the famous Fittleworth Flyers’ cakes (a little British queuing may be necessary).

DESCRIPTION:For more details go to the organisers site here: \nThe Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 walk\, or trail run is an event suited to all the family\, with a choice of distances from 5km to the more demanding 42k/Marathon\, or even a 50k Ultra Marathon. \nThe routes will be over footpaths\, bridleways and quiet country roads in the Salisbury Wessex area. The walk/trail runs\, will take you past a variety of sites of historical and scientific interest and through Country Estates not usually open to the general public. \nThis has been made possible by the kind permission of several landowners along the route including English Heritage. \nNB. As the event takes place during the harvest season\, participants are asked to enjoy the Countryside but to take great care with respect to Fire risks.

SUMMARY:Roundhill Romp 6mile
DESCRIPTION:7.30pm start \nThere are a number of things to watch out for around the course: \nMouse Lane\, which you enter near the beginning of the race\, is very narrow with high banks on either side. It is prone to having surface water flowing down it from the hills even in dry weather. There are also a number of houses along the lane that occasionally generate traffic during the race. Please remember that vehicles have the right of way – not you! \nThe other tracks and paths of the course are either rutted\, muddy and pot holed dirt\, slippery chalky paths or flint tracks. The paths are very uneven and often have exposed tree roots going across them. Occasionally fallen trees will partially block the paths. Every effort will be made to cut these back or have them removed but this may not always be possible and runners may be required to climb over\, duck under or go around these obstacles. \nPlease also be prepared to stand aside if faster runners need to overtake on narrower parts of the course. \nThere are a number of gates and fences around the course that we arrange to be opened on the night but there are also a number of gates and posts that cannot be removed so please take care. \nThe course has some very steep up and down slopes that can be VERY SLIPPERY. There are gates\, tree roots\, pot holes and slippery paths on the slopes. Please take care and avoid going too fast on the downward slope towards the end of the race. \nCar Parks are available at Tanyard Lane and Fletchers Croft. Please do not try to park at the finishing field as parking is severely limited and will be needed for race officials and First Aid. \nFinally please – NO DOGS.

SUMMARY:Beach Run 5 mile - Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:This event is unique to the league as it is the only run on a beach. It’s an out and back course of about 5 miles along the sandy beach in Littlehampton\, starting on the green near the coastguard tower at 7:30pm and then heading east on the beach towards Worthing\, moving between the beach itself and the beachside path. The turning point is at a drinks station due south of Pigeon House Lane\, East Preston from where the runners will return back along the sand to Littlehampton\, finishing in the same part of the green near the coastguard tower. \nCertainly not hilly – though graded a Paulie 2 because running along a beach/shingle is always harder than road or a hard trail\, but on a summers eve\, what could be better?! \nGive Danielle your names before 4th June and its just £3 – simply splendid!
