DESCRIPTION:The South Downs Relay is a trail event covering the c100 miles of the South Downs Way\, from Eastbourne to Winchester \nCan anyone enter?  No\, entry to the race is by invitation only.  If you wish to be considered in 2014 please contact the organiser. \nHow many teams can I enter?  Your team contact will know this; generally it’s the same number that you entered last year. \n \nWhat are the team categories? A Team comprises male or female over 18 years of age on race day. B Team is as above but only if ‘A’ team competing. Veteran Team comprises men or women over 40 and 35 years respectively. Ladies team comprises any female over 18 years of age on race day. \n \nHow much is it? £100 per team. \n \nWhat is the start time? It depends on your estimated time to complete the event\, but it will be between 0500hrs & 0900hrs.  All teams will be notified closer to race day. \n \nWhat happens if someone gets injured during the race?  Inform one of the officials and make sure the organisers know.  You need six runners to run three non-consecutive legs each throughout the day.  All the race rules and other important details are on the website.

This challenging 10 mile road race – the only 10 mile road race in Sussex – covers the quiet lanes through the stunning countryside outside Rye. SUMMARY:Horsham 10k - Grand Prix
DESCRIPTION:The annual Horsham 10k race (part of the Sussex Grand Prix series) is a popular multi-terrain race starting at Horsham Rugby Club. It includes one lap of the rugby field followed by two laps of the local roads including a 1km section of bridleway and climbs back up the hill to finish back at the rugby club. Organised by Horsham Joggers in conjunction with the Horsham Lions Club\, this event also raises much needed funds for local charities and good causes.

SUMMARY:Haywards Heath 10 Mile - Grand Prix
DESCRIPTION:The Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend continues with a 10-mile race in Haywards Heath – the race is part of the 2014 Sussex Grand Prix. \nDate: \nSunday May 4th 2014 \nStart time: \nThe race will take place at 10.30\, with a Children’s Race at approximately 9.45 am. \nLocation: \nThe race headquarters and start are at the Orchard Shopping Centre just off the main shopping thoroughfare in South Road\, Haywards Heath\, RH16 3QH. The finish is in Victoria Park. \nRoute: \nThe race starts on the High Street runners do a lap of the park (in blue on the course map) and then do two red loops and covers a route using the roads\, paths\, trails and footpaths in and around Haywards Heath. Much of the route is off-road and mainly traffic free. Participants then return to Victoria Park for the finish. \nTo see the course map\, please click here. \nWater Stations: \nWater will be available for all participants at approximately every three miles during in the race\, with additional water available at the start and finish. Participants are urged to ensure they are hydrated fully before beginning the race and if the weather is likely to be warm\, you should consider carrying your own supply of water as well. \nRelay: \nA relay option is available with change-over points located at the water stations at approximately 3 miles and 6 miles.

SUMMARY:Lewes 10k - Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:Starting on the athletics track at Lewes Leisure Centre this multi-terrain 10k race heads out towards Kingston before looping back into Lewes\, briefly on paved roads before heading back into the stadium area to finish on the track in style! \nI grade this a Paulie level 2 on my scale – its a trail 10k that can vary according to the weather so don’t expect any PB’s\, but its a great run and perfect for your first 10k – it was mine! \n10.30 am Toddlers Trot\n10.40 am 1 mile\n10.50 am 2 mile\n11.15 am 10K \nAs in previous years\, runners and their family members can use the local leisure centre facilities for a subsidised swim. \nThe introduction 2 years ago of the 1 mile has proven to be more popular than originally thought\, so maybe worth considering along with the 2 mile if you don’t fancy the 10k (although not part of the Fun Runs – they need separate entry which you need to do yourself) \nAlso\, in an endeavour to make the 1 mile race fun and competitive\, we are trialling a new route: starting on the track\, through the local school grounds\, onto the local lane\, and back onto the track for a final lap. We are measuring to get the distance precise.

SUMMARY:Brighton Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Brighton Marathon is a road race run over the distance of 42.195 km or 26 miles and 385 yards. It takes place each April in Brighton on the south coast of England. The inaugural Brighton Marathon was organised by former international athlete Tim Hutchings and former Brighton club athlete\, Tom Naylor. The first running of the race took place on 18th April 2010. The race opened to 12\,000 entries\, with 7\,589 participating on race day. The course start line was at Preston Park. The route took in some of the sights of central Brighton before heading East towards Rottingdean. The race then headed west out to and around Hove\, before returning on the seafront and finishing on Madeira Drive\, close to Brighton Pier.

DESCRIPTION:The Headquarters for this run is the Adur Outdoor Centre (on the opposite side of the river\, across the bridge\, from Ropetackle) in Shoreham. \nMeet afterwards at The Bridge Inn\, 87 Hight Street\, Shoreham for a drink and/or meal – but please let Gill or Liz know so we can book a table! \nThe race is 5 miles and flat up and down the river bank\, which qualifies it as a Paulie Grade 1 in my book – though bear in mind that for some reason it has been dogged by bad weather in recent years\, despite a move from November to earlier in the year to try to avoid this! \nPlease note that the race actually starts about 200m NORTH along the river on the Ropetackle side – so bear that in mind if you’re just aiming for the Race HQ – allow a good 10 and preferably 15 mins to get to the start \nAs always\, for Henfield Joggers only\, let me have your details by 13th March and I will sort your number out for a paltry £2 – or pay £5 on the day

DESCRIPTION:2014 is the 24th year of the Brighton Half Marathon\, voted most improved race at the 2013 Runners World PB Awards\, the race is now one of the most popular races in the national running calendar. \nThe race was started by the local running clubs until The Sussex Beacon took over in 2004. Times have changed since the beginning when we used to start the race at the Marina car park with 200 runners! Over the past 24 years the race has grown to over 10\,000 entrants and we are now one of the largest running events in the south east.

SUMMARY:Chichester 10k - Grand Prix
DESCRIPTION:The 23rd Annual Chichester Priory 10 K will start from Chichester Festival Theatre car park. The organisers are confident that this race\, which has reached a milestone 23rd year\, will prove as popular as ever – Many runners use it as part of their early training for the London and Brighton marathons. \nThe course for 2014 will be the same as last year\, when the organisers introduced a few minor changes that were appealing to the runners. There is likely to be a minor adjustment at the finish so as to avoid any building works at the Festival Theatre. \nThe start for the race will be in College Lane and runners will proceed in a northerly direction until they meet the junction with Wellington Road\, where they will turn right into Graylingwell Park. After running through the Park\, runners will arrive at the top of Kingsmead Avenue and after a gentle downhill slope will join the old course at 2 km. From then on it is business as usual around the Goodwood airfield\, into East Lavant and back down the Broyle Road to the finishing line in the Festival Theatre car park. \nThis well established local race is very popular with a wide range of abilities and it is expected that entrants from all over the UK will take part. It is hoped that many of the faithful supporters will return\, as well as new entrants\, so that the race limit of some 1800 runners will be reached. For the last few years this race has always been oversubscribed. If you intend to run the 23rd Chichester 10 K please make sure you get your entry in before the end of the year. \nThe race is organised by the Rotary Club of Chichester Priory and through this annual event the Club raises money for many deserving causes. We are pleased that in 2014\, for the seventh year in succession\, the race has the same major sponsors\, shared between Peter Cooper\, the local Volkswagen dealership\, and Brooks\, the International Sportswear Company. Both sponsors will have teams competing in the event.

DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL \nThe Punchbowl Marathon is a challenge walk (or run) on the footpaths and bridleways of Surrey. Two routes are offered\, 20 & 30 miles. Both routes pass around the scenic Devil’s Punchbowl. Start times\, 0730 for walkers and 0830 for runners\, joggers and fast walkers. All to finish by 1800. \nRunners should note that this event is not a race and does not follow a marked route. It is a cross country event open to walkers\, runners & joggers in which you need to follow a detailed route description. If you happen to go wrong then you might well need map-reading skills to get yourself back on route. \nThe event\, which normally takes place on the second Sunday in February\, can be subject to the vagaries of winter weather. SUMMARY:Valentines 3.5 Mile - Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:The Valentine’s Run is a multi-terrain race of approximately 3.5 miles\, becoming famous for its post-race home-made cakes.  Organised by the Horsham Joggers\, it is part of the West Sussex Fun Run League. Start is at 10am and Race HQ is the Southwater Scout & Guide Jubilee HQ (note that this is new this year – and its a 10 minute walk to the start so allow plenty of time!) Under the 2014 ‘Paulie’ scale I grade this as a 2 – its mostly flat but the almost inevitable presence of what is usually pretty thick MUD makes this slightly tougher than normal – dress for the conditions and watch the weather. But its FUN! As usual\, for Henfield Joggers only\, book in advance through me before 30th January and I’ll sort your number out all for £2!\n \nUpdate: Tuesday 28th January\nThe race team walked the course yesterday\, and it’s looking OK at the moment – about the same as last year\, if not a bit better.  So we’re expecting to go ahead on Sunday as planned.  Obviously\, things could still change and I will of course let you know in that unlikely event (at least snow isn’t in the offing like 2012!) – the final course walk is on Saturday. \nFor old hands\, please note that the location of Race HQ has changed this year – it’s in the same road (Church Road)\, but a different hut (Scouts and Guides\, rather than the Church Hall).

DESCRIPTION:Under Pauls 2014 ‘Grading’ scheme this is Grade 1 – Totally Flat! In fact it doesn’t come much flatter than this! Usually a glorious day and for many the very first race of the year – for others a really good ‘first race’. \nCourse\nThe course is a flat out and back 4 miles heading West along Worthing promenade. A small portion of the course is run on grass. \nParking\nOn street parking is very limited close to the start the area\, we recommend using the towns multi-story car parks (the easiest is directly across the road above the bowling alley and M&S)\, or the roads approx 800m to the West of the start location. \nBag Storage\nAdjacent to the race office is temporary storage for participants belongings during the race. SUMMARY:Dark Star River Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Dark Star River Marathon is 28.2 miles long and starts at Shoreham by sea and runs up one side of the river Adur into Partridge Green past the Dark Star Brewery co and then back down the other side of the river. The race will start at the Scout Centre on Shoreham Recreation Ground at 9 oclock . Please be aware that the weather in January and the terrain can be varied so we ask that you are a competent trail runner and have completed at least the marathon distance before you enter. \nThe event is being sponsored by Dark Star brewery and we have secured a few goodies for all finishers. \nAs with all our races a warm snack and tea and coffee will be waiting for you at the end .  \nThe race will be capped at 60 runners so get in early!
