DESCRIPTION:Starting or Returning to Running?\n\nCome and join Henfield Joggers next ‘beginners /returners to running’ programme on Wednesday 30th September 2015\, 7pm at Henfield Leisure Centre\n\nThis is an 8 week walk/run programme led by Cathy Walker\, certified Run England ‘Leadership in Running Fitness’ coach\, building up to a 5k run\, and all levels are welcome\, with both on and off road running although at this time of year it will be 90% on the roads. The course costs £25 but includes 15 months membership to Henfield Joggers (valid until January 2017) which brings all the benefits of membership too since we are a friendly club for whom socialising is as important as the running! As an additional benefit you can acquire one of our lovely green running vests for a greatly reduced £10 on completion of your first ‘West Sussex Fun Run League’ event!\n\nFor more information just contact us at: beginners@henfieldjoggers.co.uk\, or turn up on the night\n\nIf you’re already running and just want some additional motivation\, advice\, or simply to run with like-minded people\, then come and meet us\, there’s no pressure to join immediately so come and check us out first\, new members are always very welcome. From April to the end of September we’re ‘out and about’ with various pub runs\, events etc\, so check our ‘find us’ page for details. The rest of the year you’ll find us most Wednesday evening at Henfield Leisure Centre for both on and off-road runs (yes\, we go off road even in the dark of winter!) but then\, we also have a WINTER pub run schedule too (we like pubs!) so check out where we are first!

SUMMARY:Will Page 10k - Grand Prix
DESCRIPTION:Run mainly on scenic\, undulating roads south of Newick\, this year will see the 23rd running of this race. \nThe first race was held on September 19th 1993 as part of the fundraising programme for the Sports Pavilion extension on George V Playing Field\, Newick.  Will Page\, a keen runner and sportsman\, was just starting to organise the event when he was tragically killed in a road accident.  The race went ahead in Will’s name and has been held every year since then. \nIn 2001 the Newick Will Page 10k was included in the Sussex Road Racing Grand Prix for the first time and was held on the now customary Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. \nThe race is open to all runners over 16 and offers trophies for the winners of the men’s and ladies’ open and men’s and ladies’ veteran categories and the Page family donate a trophy to the first member of a Newick sports club to finish.  All finishers receive a medal. \nMore details and entry forms available from the organisers here.

SUMMARY:Hastings Half Marathon - Grand Prix
DESCRIPTION:www.hastings-half.co.uk \nThe Hastings Half Marathon is organised by The Hastings Lions Club to \nHastings Half\nraise monies for needy causes\, and to promote the historic and wonderful town of Hastings.  \nI speak from personal experience when I add that it is 9 miles minimum uphill\, so worth training for\, but also probably the friendliest\, best supported\, and best organised race around! \nThe race follows a loop around the historical town of Hastings. Runners start on the seafront then run along the route that William the Conqueror took towards the village of Battle. From there you head round the back of Hastings down towards the ‘Old Town’ and fishing village of Hastings\, before running back along the three mile seafront back to where it started. \nThe first few miles are somewhat tough\, being mostly uphill (albeit on closed roads). However many runners have achieved some very fast times and PBs on this course\, and it has the very best support to spur you on\, with crowds lining every road and entertainment around the route\, with four bands\, two disco’s\, two choirs and a cheerleader group. It really is an experience you will remember and an event not to be missed! \nHastings Start

SUMMARY:Eastbourne Half Marathon - Grand Prix
DESCRIPTION:The Eastbourne Half Marathon is planned to be even bigger and better than previous years. Following the huge success of 2014 they are hoping to attract over 2000 entrants. It is very much a community event and is most definitely aimed at runners of all abilities. The organisers are just as excited at seeing the last person finish as they are the first. \nEastbourne Route\nAlso new for this year are more bands and entertainment along the route offering encouragement and of course ‘pacers’ to help you achieve your set goal or PB. \nThe ethos behind the Eastbourne Half Marathon is to raise money for charities and local good causes. Over the years they have given directly to charity over £110\,000 and much\, much more has been raised for entrants’ own personal charities.

SUMMARY:The Gatliff Marathon(s)
DESCRIPTION:BACKGROUND : On the 19th Jan 1934\, 24 members of the YHA met above Cox’s Café\, Croydon to form Croydon YHA Group. Herbert Gatliff was one of the founder members. The first Gatliff Marathon was organised in 1984 as part of Croydon Group’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Hence the distance. \nROUTE : The Gatliff has different routes each year through rural countryside using footpaths and tracks. There will be 50km\,35km and 20km options (31 miles\, 22 miles and 12.5 miles) and a route description will be given to each entrant. The objective is to complete the distance within 10 hours. \nCHECKPOINTS : There will be 5 Checkpoints on the 50km\, 3 on the 35km and one on the 20km. Drinks and biscuits will be provided at all of them with tea\, soup\, sandwiches etc at the lunch stop (50km & 35km only). and light refreshments at the lunchstop \nCERTIFICATES AND RESULTS : Certificates will be awarded to those who have completed the full distance on foot within the time limit and have had their checkcard signed or punched at all the checkpoints on their route. A special certificate will be awarded to those who have successfully completed 10 (50km) Gatliff Marathons.\nResults can be ordered at Edenbridge.

DESCRIPTION:Date to be confirmed \nThe Brighton 10K starts in Madeira Drive (the road next to the sea front below Marine Parade)\, Brighton. \nThe route heads out towards the Marina (East) for 1.5K before turning back on itself\, going back past the start\, and continuing past the Palace and West piers. The race continues past the Peace Statue (aprox 5K) to the King Alfred Leisure centre at 6.5K where it turns and comes back along the sea front to the finish\, also in Madeira drive.

DESCRIPTION:The Lewes 10 mile and 5 mile Downland Runs take place on the first Sunday in October each year. The start and finish of both events are in a meadow near the motor road approach to the old Lewes Race Course just off the A275. \n10 mile race starts at 11.15 am.\n5 mile race starts at 11.00 am \nThe race HQ is at Wallands Primary School. DESCRIPTION:Salisbury to Winchester: Running or Walking\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you are looking for a marathon which is off road\, picturesque and challenging then running the Clarendon is the ultimate. Our route takes you from Salisbury to Winchester along the ancient Clarendon Way with a few extra turns here and there to make up a full 26.2 miles. More than 90% is off road\, with the trail following country tracks and paths – many of which have not changed since being travelled by the ancient Kings and Queens of England. \nEvent details\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Clarendon Way Marathon (Laverstock/Salisbury to Winchester) – starting at 10:30hrs (earlier start of 8:30hrs for walkers and 9:30hrs for very slow runners). DESCRIPTION:Marathon and Half marathon options are available. Both routes are measured\, multi-terrain\, and mainly off-road\, using footpaths and country lanes East of Farnham. Some sections follow the popular North Downs Way\, in the footsteps of pilgrims ancient and modern. Other parts may be an interesting discovery\, even for regulars to the area. The routes will not necessarily follow those used in previous years\, but the hills will still be there\, as will the variety of scenery (see the map for a broad outline of the courses). As ever\, the challenge will be rewarded with classic views of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

SUMMARY:Hornet Stinger - Fun Run 9.5k
DESCRIPTION:Hove Hornets welcome you to their first race as members of the WSFRL. This is a new race\, a challenging cross-country course over 9.5km of the Downs with spectacular views\, which includes hills\, stiles and varied terrain. The race start is one mile from the clubhouse on the eastern arm of Waterhall Road so leave yourself 15/20 minutes to walk/jog from the clubhouse across the grass to just beyond the underpass. The finish is on the rugby club pitches in front of the Rugby clubhouse. The course is approximately 9.5 kilometres along public bridleways and footpaths. The ground consists of chalk with flint exposed and grass. It is very uneven especially in the first 2 kilometres where there are deep tractor ruts often containing water. On the return the field at 8K is badly pitted by cattle hooves on a moderate downhill gradient. Please proceed with extreme caution – you can make up time later! At the beginning of the race\, there is a steep gradient and sharp right turn after which the climbs are less severe. There is a second steep gradient after approx. 5 kilometres\, out of Saddlescombe Farm\, where water is available. It is likely that the uneven terrain and stiles will produce reduced race times – but a great run! The course will be marked by kilometre signs (approx.distances only) and direction arrows \nLOCATION \nThe race is at Waterhall Playing Fields\, Waterhall Road\, Brighton\, BN1 8YR (Registration at Brighton Blues Rugby clubhouse) \nFACILITIES \nThe race HQ is located in the clubhouse of the Brighton Blues Rugby Club. Refreshments provided by the Rugby club will be on sale at the clubhouse before and after the race. The clubhouse also provides a great place to have a drink/food/chat after the race. Please take advantage of it. Without the Rugby club’s assistance this race would not be possible and we ask that you respect their premises and staff. Collection of race numbers\, on the day entries and enquiries about the race will take place in the clubhouse. Changing rooms and showers are located on the lower ground floor. Toilets are located inside the clubhouse as per direction signs. A free bag storage service will be available but\, as usual\, used at your own risk The car park is to the right as you arrive at the clubhouse. There is room for about 130 vehicles. The area is not supervised during the race \nROUTE

DESCRIPTION:Saturday August 9th 2014Fresh air\, exercise\, friends\, beautiful scenery\, 2 pubs…… Don’t miss it!Meet at Steyning High Street car park\, ready for 10:15 departure. Route leaves Steyning with fairly steep climb up on to the Downs\, giving fantastic views\, joining South Downs way and after approx 5 miles\, stopping at The Frankland Arms in Washington for a quick drink\, before heading back on the lower path\, (ie flat!) for 3.5 miles\, past Wiston House and entering Steyning via Mouse Lane\, where we can relax\, eat and drink at The Star Inn\, Steyning. Aim is to be in beer garden by 13:45. Unfortunately there are NO entries on the day. \nAn out-and-back fast course the race runs west towards Shoreham on the promenade. After Hove Lagoon the course meets Basin Road South (this will be closed for the race). Following Shoreham Docks the race turns at Carats Café at 5km returning to the finish at Hove Lawns. This course is capable of producing fast times as it is flat and relatively straight.

DESCRIPTION:The race has been a popular feature of the South East’s Road Running calendar for some years now and attracts over 700 runners. \nIn addition to attracting particpants from the south east\, runners from all over the UK and overseas have enjoyed this challenging run. \nAll finishers will receive a medal and a goody bag and there are prizes for the leading runners. \nThe race uses electronic chip timing and runners will collect their chip on the day of the race – so please allow time for this and time too to take the 10 minute walk to the start. \nThere are prizes for race and category winners plus all participants receive a quality medal and goody bag. There are numerous water and sports drinks stations plus you’ll find jelly baby stations around the course. At the finish\, as well as drinks\, you’ll find a mouthwatering selection of cakes available free for all finishers. \nFor spectators\, friends and families\, there are refreshments available at the Race HQ\, including a breakfast barbecue. A Children’s Entertainer is provided free for the children at the Greyhound Public House\, who have a BBQ at lunchtime. A free assault course is provided too at the Uplands Sports Centre for toddlers and older children while you run.
