SUMMARY:Valentines 3.5 Mile - Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:The Valentine’s Run is a multi-terrain race of approximately 3.5 miles\, becoming famous for its post-race home-made cakes.  Organised by the Horsham Joggers\, it is part of the West Sussex Fun Run League. Start is at 10am and Race HQ is the Southwater Scout & Guide Jubilee HQ (note that this is new this year – and its a 10 minute walk to the start so allow plenty of time!) Under the 2014 ‘Paulie’ scale I grade this as a 2 – its mostly flat but the almost inevitable presence of what is usually pretty thick MUD makes this slightly tougher than normal – dress for the conditions and watch the weather. But its FUN! As usual\, for Henfield Joggers only\, book in advance through me before 30th January and I’ll sort your number out all for £2!\n \nUpdate: Tuesday 28th January\nThe race team walked the course yesterday\, and it’s looking OK at the moment – about the same as last year\, if not a bit better.  So we’re expecting to go ahead on Sunday as planned.  Obviously\, things could still change and I will of course let you know in that unlikely event (at least snow isn’t in the offing like 2012!) – the final course walk is on Saturday. \nFor old hands\, please note that the location of Race HQ has changed this year – it’s in the same road (Church Road)\, but a different hut (Scouts and Guides\, rather than the Church Hall).

SUMMARY:Dark Star River Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Dark Star River Marathon is 28.2 miles long and starts at Shoreham by sea and runs up one side of the river Adur into Partridge Green past the Dark Star Brewery co and then back down the other side of the river. The race will start at the Scout Centre on Shoreham Recreation Ground at 9 oclock . Please be aware that the weather in January and the terrain can be varied so we ask that you are a competent trail runner and have completed at least the marathon distance before you enter. \nThe event is being sponsored by Dark Star brewery and we have secured a few goodies for all finishers. \nAs with all our races a warm snack and tea and coffee will be waiting for you at the end .  \nThe race will be capped at 60 runners so get in early!

DESCRIPTION:Hijacking one of our ‘pub run’ nights\, Derek has offered to host an evening in around his ‘Smart Car size’ Pizza Oven in his garden in Henfield. The address has been emailed to all members separately\, so if you need a further reminder please contact me! \nDefinitely ‘BYOB’ (Bring Your Own Bottle) but everything else is provided – unbelievable value! \nIn Dereks own words:\n \n“I’ll make the pizza dough earlier in the day and rolled out onto pizza trays and put through the oven the first time to crisp\, ready for everyone to create their favourites / bizarre combinations… \nWill have these toppings ready: sliced hams\, chorizo\, Italian meats\, chicken\, mozzarella\, anchovies\, olives\, peppers\, tomatoes\, chilli\, garlic\, mushrooms\, feta\, sweet cucumbers & onions\, chilli oil and garlic oil and for those with really big cahunas ‘Ghost’ pepper sauce! \nI’ll be in the garden all day and ready for people at any time after 7:30 ish. Please come to the side gate (I’ll keep the dogs inside until used to the crowd – just make sure Malcolm doesn’t wear his postie uniform or there could be some growling!). Have enrolled help of Mel and my two daughters\, so should be all ready. \nI can cook 6 at a time\, so if people bring their own tipple and are quite happy helping themselves until theirs goes in / comes out\, then with 10 seats outside & 6 in the kitchen for those eating – it should work well. I envisage a conveyor belt  of pizzas.”\n\nThis should be a great evening and many thanks to Derek for offering up his HUGE pizza oven!! \nWhat we need is an idea of numbers\, so Derek knows how many bases to make and toppings to prep\, ensuring no-one goes hungry. We need to know by Tuesday night latest if you’re coming\, as he’ll be buying all ingredients first thing Wednesday. DESCRIPTION:Our local and beloved Dark Star Brewery are holding a Charity Bike/Run event on Sunday 21st July 2013. While this is NOT a Henfield Joggers organised event\, we thought it might be fun to try and coordinate meeting up if enough people are interested – if you want to participate\, then book your place direct with Dark Star organiser – but after booking if you’d like to join the group then Email either Gill or Liz: gehamiltonorr@gmail.com or lizpamment@gmail.com. \nPlease go to http://darkstarbrewing.co.uk/ds247/ for entry – : \nThe Dark Star 24/7 is the first event to be run by the newly formed Dark Star Foundation and takes place on July 21st this year. \nAnyone and everyone is invited to join the sponsored journey\, starting at the Dark Star Brewery in Partridge Green\, following a round-trip before returning to the Partridge pub for a BBQ and well-earned rest. \nCyclists will take on the 24-mile return journey to Shoreham\, whilst walkers/runners will tackle a 7-mile route to Wineham\, stopping for refreshments at The Duke of Wellington\, Shoreham and The Royal Oak\, Wineham before embarking on the journey home. \nMonies raised will go towards ‘The Dark Star Foundation\,’ created by the brewery to ‘Support & Inspire’ by working alongside\, and helping\, good causes. It will work in three key areas: providing funds to pubs to assist in their fundraising effort\, provide seed funding for tomorrow’s entrepreneurs\, issue funds to good causes / charities. \nJames Cuthbertson of Dark Star commented: “The 24/7 event is a great excuse to get out in the fresh air\, make new friends and have fun\, not to mention sharing a beer at the end of our spoils and raise funds for the Foundation”. \nAdding: “What we’re asking people to do is pay £15 entry (under 16 free). For that\, all adults will get a Dark Star Foundation t shirt\, coffee on arrival and beer upon arrival back at The Partridge. Participants can help us raise further funds by getting sponsored\, with all funds raised going to the Dark Star Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:http://www.threefortsmarathon.org.uk/ \nDevils Dyke – Chanctonbury Ring – Cissbury Ring – 27 miles \nKnown as ‘The Tough One’\, with 27 miles of mixed terrain and climbs of 3450 feet. \nAre you up to any of our 3 Races (Marathon\, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay)?\nYou are either going UP or DOWN\, it is always TOO HOT or TOO COLD\, the ground is TOO HARD or TOO SLIPPERY\, if it RAINS IT IS HORIZONTAL and finally the WIND BLOWS A GALE or THERE IS NO BREEZE at all. \nUphill!\nWe have taken notice of your comments on how we could make improvements\, but our aim is not to make it any easier. \nIn last year’s race we hit our maximum entry limit\, however 200 did not show up  as the weather was so bad. We have decided not to increase the entry numbers this year\, so enter early as we may not be able to take entries on the day.
